USA's Wave7 Optics, an industry leader in optical broadband access systems based near Atlanta, Georgia, has established a north European office in Svendborg, Funen. Wave7 Optics wants to increase focus on existing customers as well as gaining new ones. The firm has appointed Amdi Kirkgaard as director of its Danish branch office.
In March this year, Wave7 Optics together with Sydfyns Elforsyning, a major utility company based in Svendborg, announced plans to build a DKK 75 m (USD 12.8 m) single fibre FTTP* network in Denmark for voice, digital video and high speed data, the largest in Europe so far.
Sydfyns Elforsyning is in the process of connecting all of its 30,000 electricity customers in the Svendborg area to this optical broadband network. The utility company expects to have more than 5,000 customers on the net by the end of this year. Eltel Networks is managing the project as equipment installer and integrator.
Aksel Pedersen CEO of Sydfyns Elforsyning said in a press release in March: "We are very impressed with Wave7's expertise in the area of utility-owned and operated FTTP networks and have full confidence that our customers will greatly appreciate this new network. This project will fill a gap in the information infrastructure in this region." The news was reported by Erhvervsbladet.
