Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, has received an order for three turnkey wind power plants in Italy totalling 55.5 MW. The order comprises 30 V52-850 kW wind turbines and 15 V80-2.0 MW wind turbines. All three wind power plants are expected to be fully commissioned by the end of 2006.
The order was placed by Italian Vento Power Corporation (IVPC). Paolo Tabarelli de Fatis, president of Vestas Mediterranean East says: "The order is a confirmation of our long relationship with the IVPC Group which dates back to 1998. IVPC is Italy's largest developer, and we are very satisfied with the loyalty shown to Vestas and our products, which is seen as a result of good product quality combined with continuous dialogue".
The wind power plants will meet the energy needs of approx. 95,000 families and will save the environment of more than 61,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen and in a press release from Vestas.
Vestas Wind Systems has installed more than 26,000 wind turbines in more than 50 countries worldwide. The company employs 9,600 people and has production facilities in Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, UK, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Australia. In 2004, Vestas Wind Systems generated revenues of DKK 19.1 bn (USD 3.3 bn).
