Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, has gained an order for 30 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines for a project in the north-east of the US. This is the second order from the US within a month. The order was placed by Edison Mission Group Inc, a subsidiary of Edison International based in Irvine, California, and a long-time customer of Vestas.
Jens Søby, president of Vestas Americas comments: "We are convinced that the V90 turbine will be an important part of the continued growth of the North American market in the coming years". Vestas will supply and commission the wind turbines as well as providing maintenance and service support for a five-year period. Shipment of the wind turbines will start during autumn 2006.
Vestas Wind Systems has installed more than 26,000 wind turbines in more than 50 countries worldwide. The company employs 9,600 people and has production facilities in Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, UK, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Australia. In 2004, Vestas Wind Systems generated revenues of DKK 19.1 bn (USD 3.3 bn). The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen and on the Vestas website.
