DTU forms consortium to develop TV standard for mobile phones

The Center for Information and Communication Technologies at DTU has formed an international consortium to develop the European TV standard for mobile phones
The Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CICT) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), has formed a consortium with Nokia, Motorola, Telia, 3 and Danish Broadcasting Corporation to develop the European TV standard for mobile phones. The two year project will be based on the existing standard Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld (DVB-H).
 
Professor Knud Erik Skouby, head of the new consortium and of CICT says: "The collaboration with Danish Broadcasting Corporation and large mobile phone companies gives our students and researchers an opportunity to test groundbreaking technologies and get close to the most important aspects of mobile TV."
 
Nokia is also involved in other tests of the mobile TV standard. Karsten Vandrup, senior research manager of Nokia comments: "The two year project at the Technical University of Denmark has greater width and depth and is thus interesting to be a part of." CICT has gained DKK 3 m (USD 540,000) as well as equipment for the project. The news was reported by professional journal Ingeniøren (The Engineer).
