South Jutland based Dangaard Telecom and USA's Brightpoint are merging to form the world's largest distributor of mobile phones
South Jutland based Dangaard Telecom and USA's Brightpoint are merging to form the world's largest distributor of mobile phones. The merged company will be headquartered in Plainfield, Indiana, while Dangaard Telecom's current head office in Padborg, Denmark, will be the European headquarters.
 
Robert J. Laikin, CEO and chairman of the board of Brightpoint says: "This transaction will join together two of the most prominent players in wireless handset distribution and logistics to create a global leader. I firmly believe our companies complement each other perfectly in terms of geography, service offers and shared commitment to operational excellence."
 
Dangaard Telecom COO Michaél Køehn Milland, who will be appointed Co-Chief Operating Officer and President, International at the corporate headquarters in the US, says: "At a single stroke the merger gives us what we want, including representation in countries such as India, New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines and Singapore." The news was reported by Computerworld and on Dangaard Telecom's website.
 
The merged company will have a solid financial basis – estimated revenues were DKK 27 bn (USD 4.6 bn) in 2006. Dangaard Telecom and Brightpoint distributed around 64 million mobile phones in 2006.
