Denmark's William Demant Holding has launched what is reportedly the world's first wireless binaural hearing aid with improved stereophonic reproduction of sound, Oticon Epoq. The new product represents a paradigm shift because unlike two conventional hearing aids which work independently in each ear, the paired Oticon Epoq hearing aids communicate wirelessly with each other via a radio link, giving the user a significantly improved ability to sense and locate sounds, and distinguish voices in much the same way as people without hearing loss.

Oticon Epoq also offers wireless connection to mobile phones and other communication devices. Niels Jacobsen, president and CEO of William Demant Holding says: "With true binaural sound processing, Epoq sets a new standard in the premium segment, and the benefits for the user are substantial and comprehensive. Combined with the option of Bluetooth wireless connection to mobile phones, Epoq represents the biggest step forward since the introduction of digital hearing aids in the mid-90s."

Danske Equities writes in an analysis that with the launch of Epoq, William Demant Holding is well on its way to ensuring organic growth and earnings in the coming years. The new hearing aids are expected to be released for sale during May.

The William Demant Holding Group develops, manufactures and sells products and equipment designed to aid the hearing and communication of individuals. The Group focuses on three business areas: Hearing Aids, Diagnostic Instruments and Personal Communication. The news was reported by Ingeniøren (The Engineer) and on William Demant's website.
