Danish shoe company Ecco Shoes and IBM  have entered a contract under which the American IT giant will support and extend Ecco's business software solution from Germany's SAP. The 5 year contract, said to be potentially worth DKK 70 million (USD 11.9 m), has the aim of enabling Ecco to continue its strategy of focusing on growth and global expansion.

Ecco has tanneries, shoe factories, sales companies and more than 500 fully owned or franchised shops in 50 countries. In order to pursue its growth strategy the company will use a more modern version of SAP with a range of new modules such as customer relations management, delivery chain management and supplier relations management. Consultants from IBM Global Business Services will implement the new modules, as well as supporting the existing system.

IBM Nordic deputy director Jens Hassel comments: "With a better and more integrated overview of its entire business Ecco can better predict demand, assess the financial consequences of decisions, and more rapidly meet demand." The news was reported by Computerworld.
