Mobile device content developer Campfire raises investment

Danish entrepreneurial company Campfire has gained a DKK 5 m investment from Vækstfonden, a Danish state supported venture fund, and Tingskifte Invest
Danish entrepreneurial company Campfire, an animation studio and developer of media content and software applications for mobile devices, has gained a DKK 5 m (USD 0.9 m) investment from Vækstfonden, a Danish state supported venture fund, and Tingskifte Invest. The new investors each acquire a 25% stake.
Over the last two years, Campfire has developed a new technique which enables interactive comics to be shown on mobile devices. The investment will be used to launch the new type of content in 12 European countries under the name Catooz.
Søren Steen Rasmussen, head of investments at Vækstfonden, comments: "Since the market for content for mobile phones is substantial, and is expected to grow, it is not even necessary to target a mainstream segment, since the segment which is interested in comics in itself will be very large." In Europe, the market for content services for mobile phones is forecast to be around DKK 35 bn (USD 6.3 bn) in 2007.
Campfire was established in 2003 and is based in Copenhagen. The company works closely with the international distribution partner ohm:tv, offering worldwide distribution through all relevant channels of wireless entertainment. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.
