Aalborg-based NanoNord has high expectations of its new fuel analysis system currently under development for the maritime industry
NanoNord, an Aalborg based firm with strong bonds to the universities of Aalborg and Aarhus in Jutland, has high expectations of its new fuel analysis system currently under development for the maritime industry. Lab-on-a-ship comprises analytical equipment which provides in-line real time analysis of a ship’s fuel oil. Lab-on-a-ship samples the heavy fuel oil in-line at bunkering and at point of consumption while the ship is operating.

This summer, NanoNord entered a JV with Lloyd's Register to offer an online onboard fuel and lubricant consultancy service that operates 24/7 and includes the northern Jutland company's fuel analysis system.

Ultan O'Raghallaigh, director of business development & sales at NanoNord said in a press release in June that:  "We believe combining our innovative Lab-on-a-ship technology with Lloyd's Register's FOBAS [Fuel Oil and Bunker Analysis Service] software and consultancy support will meet the needs of the ship operating community. Knowing immediately what the core quality attributes of a fuel are throughout the bunkering process and as the fuel enters the engine, and being able to act immediately upon this information represents a significant advance in effective vessel management."

NanoNord has pre-sold several of its analysis systems before completion of the development process. Carsten Tilm, managing director of NanoNord forecasts that the new product will increase the company's revenues by approx. DKK 100 m (USD 19 m) annually in the short term. The news was reported by Erhvervsbladet.
