Nordic telecom giant acquires Denmark's Debitel

Nordic telecom giant TeliaSonera has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire telecompany Debitel Danmark and its subsidiary DLG Tele for approx. DKK 1 bn
TeliaSonera, a leading telecommunication company in the Nordic and Baltic region, has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire telecompany Debitel Danmark and its subsidiary DLG Tele for approx. DKK 1 bn (USD 170 m). Debitel and DLG Tele have 300,000 mobile customers, 110,000 fixed net customers and 30,000 broadband customers. With the acquisition, TeliaSonera increases its market share in Denmark from 20 to 25%.
 
Anders Igel, president and CEO of Telia Sonera says: "This transaction strengthens our position on the Danish mobile market and emphasises our ability to successfully progress with our strategy to enhance growth in our home markets."
 
Jesper Brøckner, managing director of Telia Danmark says: "Both Debitel and DLG Tele have proved that they are well-functioning firms offering good service to many customers although they are small organisations. They are capable and efficient and we have great confidence in them." Debitel and DLG tele will continue to operate under their own brand.
 
By the end of 2005, TeliaSonera had 28.7 million customers, plus 51.4 million in associated companies. The telecom group employed approx. 27,000 people and generated sales of USD 12.3 bn. TeliaSonera is listed on the stock exchange in Stockholm and Helsinki. The news was reported widely in the Danish press.
