Aalborg to host 2010 European Signal Processing Conference

Aalborg in northern Jutland has been chosen to host the European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) in August 2010
The city of Aalborg in northern Jutland has been chosen to host the European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) in August 2010, where experts from across Europe will present the latest knowledge on the subject. Joint efforts made by Aalborg University and the VisitAalborg organisation were instrumental in attracting the conference to the city, writes Aalborg University on its website.
The conference will focus on signal processing theory and its applications in mobile communication as well as audio and image processing in for example mobile telephones, MP3 players and digital cameras. Around 700 delegates are expected to attend the event, which is expected to generate more than DKK 11m (USD 2.3m) in revenues for the city of Aalborg.
Aalborg University has gained a high reputation in the field of information technology especially, and in doing so has made northern Jutland the Danish centre of telecommunications knowledge and expertise. So there is good sense in the choice of Aalborg as the host city for the EUSIPCO 2010 conference. Previous host cities for the conference have included Brussels, Barcelona, Vienna, Florence and Lausanne.
From an overseas visitor perspective, Aalborg is an easy place to get to on account of its well-served and growing airport which is located just 6 kilometres from the centre of the city. International passenger traffic virtually doubled last year, and in November 2007 a DKK 55m (USD 10m) expansion of the passenger terminal was completed. There are numerous daily flights between Aalborg and Copenhagen Airport, which is the main international hub in northern Europe, and the flight time is just 40 minutes.
