Danish shipping company Norden establishes two new pools

Norden and Interorient Navigation Company Ltd to establish two new pools in dry cargo
Danish shipping company Norden, which operates in dry cargo and tankers worldwide, and Interorient Navigation Company Ltd headquartered in Cyprus, have established two new pools to manage both companies' fleets of Handysize and Post-Panamax bulk carriers, writes financial daily newspaper Børsen.  Norden expects the new pools will become a leading global supplier in a few years.
"The collaboration with Interorient ensures that Norden will more quickly gain the same critical mass in the Handysize and Post-Panamax segments as the shipping line already has in the Handymax and Panamax segments, where Norden is among the global leaders," Norden writes in a press release. "The collaboration with Interorient in the two pools provides a broader geographical coverage, a better and more flexible offer to customers as well as significant economies of scale."
The new Handysize pool will commence operations in spring 2009 with approx 30 vessels, all provided by Norden. The pool's capacity is planned to grow rapidly since both Norden and Interorient have a comprehensive new-build programme. The new Post-Panamax pool will start operations by the end of 2009. The plan for this pool is to manage at least 16 vessels by 2012, of which 12 will be new-build.
Norden is headquartered in Copenhagen and has offices in Singapore, China, USA, Brazil and India. The company operates 211 dry cargo and tanker vessels (a mix of owned and chartered tonnage). It also has an extensive new-build programme with 86 vessels on order. Norden is listed on OMX Nordic Exchange Copenhagen.
