On 1 July, the ground was ceremonially broken to mark the beginning of Copenhagen's new bio science park COBIS. Attending the ceremony were representatives of the organisations behind COBIS – Scion DTU, Symbion and Forskerpark Aarhus – all of which operate research parks in Denmark.

COBIS will provide an incubator/growth environment for commercialising promising ideas from the biotech research environment, and stimulate networking by bringing together upwards of 40 new companies employing around 600 people.

COBIS will be located close to the new Biocenter which houses the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre, Copenhagen University's Institute of Molecular Biology and an experimental cancer research unit.

The new bio science park will provide a mix of offices and modern laboratory facilities, with good opportunities for expansion. Construction work is scheduled for completion in October 2009. It is rumoured that the investment in COBIS is something in the region of DKK 250m (USD 52.5m).
