Indian wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy has inaugurated a new international headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city. In 2002, Suzlon Energy established its international headquarters in Aarhus, headed by MD Erik Winther Pedersen. Initially, 130 people will be employed at the new premises, which have space for 250.

Pedersen told regional newspaper Aarhus Stiften that Aarhus was chosen because of the city's many research and educational institutions which can contribute to the company's development. "It creates growth opportunities in the form of access to knowledge and labour. Central Jutland is also a competence centre for wind power and this is where the unique knowledge and know-how of wind turbine technology exist."

Vestas Wind Systems, the world largest wind turbine manufacturer, has recently announced that it will move its headquarters from Randers to Aarhus in 2011 and establish 400 new engineering jobs at the location.

The Mayor of Aarhus, Nicolai Wammen, who inaugurated Suzlon Energy's new headquarters said: "Suzlon's decision to strengthen its international activities in Aarhus is yet another confirmation that our efforts to make Aarhus an international knowledge city and focus on energy and energy technology were right. Aarhus is on its way to become Denmark's energy city number one."
