US fashion firm Abercrombie & Fitch is opening a store in the centre of Copenhagen in 2009
US fashion firm Abercrombie & Fitch is opening a store in the centre of Copenhagen in 2009, writes national daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende. The New Albany, Ohio-based company has a well-established brand and operates more than 1,000 stores in the US. It is only the second branch of the chain to open outside North America, the other store being opened in London in 2006.

Property developer company Oscar Jensen Gruppen is masterminding the move. Managing director Henrik Wessmann Jensen says:

"To maintain and develop Copenhagen's position in the fashion world, we have to create the physical settings of high quality so that Danish and especially foreign fashion companies will place their profile stores and offices in the capital. It creates long-term investments and there is a need for that."

Abercrombie & Fitch was established in 1892 and operates 1,035 stores under various brands in the US. The company is listed on New York Stock Exchange and has a market value of USD 6.6bn. Abercrombie & Fitch also plans to open stores in Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Sweden.
