Vopium gains DKK 32 million investment for venture into Europe

Fledgling Danish telecompany Vopium A/S has gained a DKK 32m (USD 6.8m) investment from the Luxembourg-based investment company Enex Group SA, writes financial daily newspaper Børsen. The new funding will finance marketing and expansion into the European market.
 
Vopium is a small software programme for mobile phones that enables the user to make international calls at prices 50-90% lower than list prices of conventional telecompanies. The programme can be downloaded via Vopium's website or via SMS, and works in more than 500 different mobile phones which support Symbian, Windows Mobile, Java and Blackberry.
 
Christian Eyde Møller, chairman of Vopium A/S says in a press release: "Vopium has a well-designed and well-functioning product with major international potential. The company has already proved that it can develop an outstanding product which gives the user easy access to cheap international telephony without needing to change operator or SIM card. Vopium's objective is to become the sole supplier of foreign telephony for its customers. What remains now is to turn up the heat so that lots of people can enjoy the benefits of Vopium."
 
Vopium A/S was founded in 2006 by Tanveer Sharif, Imran Sadiq and Brian Sussemiehl. The company launched its Beta version of Vopium in May 2007, which has been tested by 20,000 customers in Scandinavia. Vopium A/S is based in Copenhagen.
