Professor Frede Blaabjerg of Aalborg University has received a prestigious prize, the Distinguished Service Award, from the IEEE Power Electronics Society in the US, reports national daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende. Blaabjerg, is the first European to receive the award, which was presented last week at a meeting of the society in San Jose, California.
 
The citation states: "Frede Blaabjerg has been given the award in recognition of his tireless work to advance the position of power electronics in the scientific community, in industry and in society in general, and for his efforts to ensure that the latest knowledge gets more swiftly out from the laboratory into the public domain."
 
Professor Blaabjerg was praised for having gained the power electronics area a more valued profile through his research work and many published scientific papers on the subject. His enthusiasm has made more students and engineers interested in the possibilities of power electronics.
 
In a press release, Frede Blaabjerg writes: "Power electronics is my passion, and over the years I have used a great deal of time to develop and promote its technologies as important instruments for producing and saving energy. It is therefore something really special, when it is valued and honoured by the best of my professional colleagues around the world."
