Newly published data for 2008 from the EU statistics office Eurostat show that Denmark is the leading EU nation for online shopping, reports financial daily newspaper Børsen. Some 60% of adult Danes spend kroner online, with clothing, sports equipment and travel among the most popular purchases.

Morten Kamper, head of the Danish association for internet trade, commented: "Danish e-trade has a strong position, both domestically and internationally. Data from the World Economic Forum has also made this very clear, with Denmark ranked as the world’s leading networked nation."

Meanwhile, the latest figures from Statistics Denmark revealed a rise in retail sales for the second month in a row, with a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.9%. Børsen notes however that despite the signs of increasing consumer willingness to spend, high street shops are still far from as busy as they were a year ago.
