A newly launched Transport Innovation Network held its first network meeting in mid June, organised in collaboration with the Technological Institute and Invest in Denmark.

One hundred participants attended the event, which focused on electric transport and between the networking sessions provided the opportunity to test drive a range of electric cars assembled for the occasion – including a Jaguar electric car from Cleantech Motors, a Mitsubishi iMiEV, a Norwegian Think and a Citroen Saxo.

Writing in national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten, Invest in Denmark's director Ole Frijs-Madsen draws attention to the fact that the introduction of electric cars as mass transport in Denmark will bring with it great demand for components for electric cars as well as the associated intelligent infrastructure, which will in turn create economic growth, new jobs and increased export opportunities for Danish companies.

The governments decision to tax-exempt electric cars until at least 2012 and probably beyond has attracted the interest of numerous electric vehicle manufacturers, including the Renault/Nissan backed Better Place electric car scheme which aims to roll out in Denmark in 2011, and China's BYD (Build Your Dreams), which plans to launch three electric cars in Denmark in 2010.
