Two established players on the Danish IT market – Skandinavisk Data Center (SDC) and Bankernes EDB Central (BEC) – are joining forces in a new company in the hope that they can take advantage of economies of scale, writes Computerworld. Both companies specialise in financial IT and have annual revenues of around DKK 1bn (USD 195m).

According to John Lundsgaard, chairman of the board for SDC, recent years have shown an increasing need for shared IT platforms and integrated solutions. "To be at the leading edge of the trend and ensure that we can deliver IT solutions to financial institutions in a competitive way, it is obvious to combine the solid competences of BEC and SDC in one powerful unit," he says in a press release.

BEC's chairman of the board Gert R. Jonassen commented: "At a time of intense focus on costs in the country's financial institutions it is pleasing that as a newly combined company we can look forward to cheaper and even stronger IT solutions that ultimately can help increase their competitiveness."

The two companies collectively employ 1,200 people.
