Vestas gains its first major contract in Romania  

Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems has gained an order for 67 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines from Romania, its first major contract in the country
Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, the world's leading wind turbine manufacturer, has announced in a press release that it has received an order for 67 V90*-3.0 MW wind turbines from S.C. Ewind S.R.L and S.C. Wind Power Park S.R.L., Romania for two projects in the Constanta region of the country. The order includes installation, commissioning and a long-term service agreement. Delivery will take place during 2009 and 2010.
Hans Jørn Rieks, president of Vestas Central Europe says in the press release: "We are particularly happy about this contract which is the first large contract for us in Romania and it confirms our positive expectations for this market."
Vestas is headquartered in Randers, Jutland, and employs 17,000 people worldwide. The company has installed more than 35,500 wind turbines in 63 countries on five continents, and has a 23% share of the world market. The company's forecast for 2008 is a 25% worldwide market share and a turnover of EUR 5,700m (USD 7,152m).
*Readers may like to know that the Vestas code designation gives a handy guide to size: the number following the V is the diameter of the rotor in metres. So a V90 has a rotor diameter of 90 metres (295 feet) – Ed.
