Welfare technology project in Southern Denmark gains major funding

Southern Denmark Growth Forum has announced that it will grant DKK 51.6m for a three year project in welfare technology
Southern Denmark Growth Forum, an organisation that supports regional development, has announced that it will grant DKK 51.6m (USD 10.1m) for a three year project in welfare technology, a term that covers design and development of aids, appliances and services in the nursing sector. The news is reported by Region Southern Denmark.
The project, called Welfare Tech Region, has a total budget of DKK 77m (USD 15m) and a potential of creating 500 jobs and establishing 50 new companies in the region.
Chairman of Southern Denmark Growth Forum Carl Holst says: "We have a unique chance to kill two birds with one stone. With Welfare Tech Region we can create the foundation for the business adventure of the future and at the same time do something about the lack of staff in the social and healthcare sector that we are facing. We are already in the lead – also internationally. We must expand this leading position and so we should have the courage to act now."
Partners in Welfare Tech Region include regional hospitals, Odense municipality, Region Southern Denmark, University of Southern Denmark and a range of private sector companies.
