North Jutland aims to become international test bed for ITS

North Jutland Growth Forum is providing DKK 18m in funding for the development of an Intelligent Transport System in the region
Northern Jutland has aspirations to become a test bed for ITS, or intelligent transport systems. ITS is all about providing in-car information and transaction services to motorists, such as roadworks and traffic congestion updates, automatic parking charges, and road toll charges. Now the North Jutland Growth Forum has put wheels under the project with a donation of DKK 18m (USD 3.2m), writes version2.
The software for "ITS Platform North Jutland" will be developed by locally headquartered GateHouse, which specialises in technical software development and system integration for advanced communications systems.
GateHouse MD Michael Bondo Andersen says in a press release that he sees good business opportunities in the development of an ITS platform:
"In the short term we expect that the development and establishment of a scalable and flexible platform for ITS in Jutland can provide the foundation for an ITS cluster in the region. Companies can use this platform to develop new ITS products and services, which will give the region a leading position in ITS. In the long term we hope to broaden out the ITS platform nationally and internationally both as a test site, and for the implementation of specific solutions."
In addition to the ITS platform from GateHouse, 500 mobile units from intelligent systems provider Inntrasys will be installed in cars in the north Jutland area. The units use GSM/GPRS technology for communication and GPS receivers for positioning.
