Roskilde University is to establish a new research centre with the aim of gaining knowledge that can help the Danish population to become healthier, the university writes in a press release.

The 'Research Center in Health Promotion' will bring together health-related research from numerous sources to achieve a deeper understanding of issues like the connection between poorer social conditions and poorer standards of health, and the influence of the workplace on health. The forces that link social attitudes with parameters like urbanisation and youth culture will also be studied.

Knowledge networks form an integral part of the center's modus operandi. The Center's director Bettina Dybbroe comments in the press release: "One of our aims is to create knowledge through interplay with external partners. Collaboration with the municipalities that gives momentum to health promotion initiatives is a top priority for us."

Besides research into the health perspectives of everyday life, the Research Center in Health Promotion will critically examine current health promotion policies and explore how the Nordic welfare model provides a framework for health promotion initiatives.
