Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s leading manufacturer of wind turbines, has announced the opening of an IT hub in the Philippines, in addition to Vestas' three existing IT hubs in Denmark, Singapore and the USA. The new IT hub, called Vestas Services Philippines Inc, will support Vestas’ global IT operations including surveillance, service desk, operations, support and programming competencies.
Located in Manila, Vestas’ new IT hub will initially employ approx. 25 IT professionals. The company expects to increase staffing to 200 employees by the end of 2011, making the Philippines facility Vestas' largest IT hub outside Denmark.
Vestas chief information officer Torben Bonde comments in a press release. “The opening of our IT hub in the Philippines will make it possible for Vestas IT to streamline its global IT services throughout Vestas’ business and enable us to operate our IT reliant business areas more efficiently.”
One of the key reasons why Manila was chosen as the location for the new Vestas IT hub was because of the skills and competencies of the local workforce, the company states.
“Filipino IT professionals’ quality of education, professional experience, cultural adaptability and good communication skills make them a welcome addition to our global Group IT organisation. Vestas is confident that with the capabilities and expertise of Filipinos, the Manila IT hub will provide valuable support to our global IT operations together with our IT employees in Denmark, Singapore and the USA,” says Torben Bonde.
Vestas is headquartered in Randers, Jutland, and employs over 20,000 people worldwide. The company has installed more than 40,000 wind turbines in 63 countries on five continents, and has a 20% share of the world market.
