Vestas maintains its No.1 position in the wind turbine market

New figures from consultancy firm Make Consulting reveal that Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas lost market share in 2009, but maintained its position as the world's leading company in the sector, reports energy-supply.dk.
 
According to Make Consulting, Vestas had a market share of just over 14%* in 2009, a couple of percentage points ahead of US concern GE (General Electric). The conclusion is drawn that both Vestas and GE lost share in 2009, since the two companies had a market share of around 19% apiece in 2008.
 
Energy-supply.dk writes that rapid growth is evident among Chinese wind turbine manufacturers, with Chinese companies making a strong showing in the top 15 in 2009. Sinovel achieved third place with a market share of 9% while Goldwind took fifth spot with a 7% share.
