Three new reports on offshore wind strengthen the Danish global market leader position and support 1000 MW offshore wind parks.

Three new reports further increase the strong Danish focus on offshore wind power. A Deloitte report forecasts that the price for building offshore wind farms can be reduced, while the Danish Energy Agency gives guidelines for building coastal wind turbines and the Offshore Wind Farm Committee releases an updated version of where future offshore wind farms will be built.

“The three reports are a solid foundation for making decisions about expanding our offshore wind power capacity,” says the Danish Climate and Energy Minister Lykke Friis in a press release.

1000 MW Danish offshore wind parks in the pipeline

A 600 MW Kriegers Flak Offshore Wind Farm is already included in the Government’s energy strategy and an additional 400 MW coastal wind turbines will be established in the near future. This means that Denmark will have no less than 2300 MW offshore wind turbines within a few years.

Internationalise wind tenders

The Deloitte report suggests that the tender be altered to permit a greater dialogue with potential bidders, and to allow for information about the tenders to be spread internationally. Deloitte’s report is based on interviews with individuals from a number of energy companies, investors, and public agencies, and takes into account other countries’ experiences building offshore wind farms, as well as an evaluation of the competitive conditions within the offshore wind sector.
The report on conditions for coastal wind turbines and the updated report from the Offshore Wind Turbine Committee are only available in Danish, but you can read the English summary of the Deloitte report on the establishment of offshore wind farms.
