The European Commission’s report Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2012 (RIS) provides a comparative assessment of innovation performance across regions of the European Union, Croatia, Norway and Switzerland. Denmark is part of in the best performing group of Innovation leaders with Region Midtjylland (Central Jutland) and the Copenhagen Region as spearheads.
The innovation leading regions in Denmark are ranked as such because of the public and private R&D flows, innovative activity of SMEs, public-private collaboration in research and innovation, development of technological and non-technological innovations, number of patents, employment in high-tech manufacturing and knowledge-intensive services and more.
Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr, says:
- "The Regional Innovation Scoreboard confirms that Denmark is a great location for companies who need to be innovative. We are renowned for our ability to create public-private research, we have a well-educated and creative workforce and our SMEs efficiently turn new ideas into successful business cases."
- "Innovation is highly prioritized by the Danish government and as part of this process we are about to strengthen our global presence with more international innovation centres. I am confident that this will result in an increasing amount of innovation projects in cooperation between international and Danish companies to a mutual benefit."
Denmark is already running four innovation centres in Shanghai, Silicon Valley, Munich and Hong Kong. The new centres are to open in 2013.
