New National Water Test Center in Denmark

is Mobile

Denmark's national test center for water technology will support the development of water technologies in the most efficient way by combining a new mobile test center with a network of existing facilities.

- "With the new mobile center, Water Technology Companies get easy access to test their ideas and develop new products. Regardless of the companies’ location, the test facilities will be located in the immediate vicinity of their business," says Minister for Trade and Investment and interim Minister for the Environment Pia Olsen Dyhr.

It is a consortium with consulting group COWI and the Danish Technological Institute as project managers and research institutions, utilities and municipalities as partners, who have won the tender for the test center.

Knowledge and Network to Improve Competitiveness

The new national test center for water technology and climate adaptation is supported by a secretariat, where companies can receive advice on where and how the sustainability of their idea can be tested, either by getting a researcher to evaluate if the idea or by identifying the appropriate test facilities for a specific product.

- “We should not spend all the money on bricks, when there are already facilities around the country. We will instead focus on creating synergies by gathering knowledge and partners from research institutions like Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg University, and creating a dynamic, flexible setup in line with the companies’ demands,” says Pia Olsen Dyhr.

Once the center is established by the Danish Nature Agency, it will be run independently and can be used by companies to test solutions for groundwater, wastewater and surface water.

The new national test center for water technology and climate adaptation opens this summer, but companies have already submitted their projects. Mrs. Pia Olsen Dyhr comments:

- “I am impressed by the projects that have been submitted, and I am confident that with this new setup we will further strengthen our international competitiveness in regard to water technology. I also hope to see foreign investors seize this opportunity to develop innovative water technology solutions in Denmark.”

The Test Center is the realization of one of the recommendations by a Growth Team for water, bio and environmental solutions initiated by the Danish government.
