Denmark 3rd Best Country in New Prosperity Index

Only one week after being ranked no. 1 in Europe in the World Bank’s Doing Business report, Denmark takes a top position in the annual Legatum Prosperity Index.

The Prosperity Index ranks 142 countries across eight categories: the Economy, Entrepreneurship & Opportunity; Governance; Education; Health; Safety & Security; Personal Freedom; and Social Capital.

Denmark receives its highest rankings within the entrepreneurship & opportunity, social capital and governance categories.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Jensen says:

“The Prosperity Index shows that prosperity goes beyond economics and Denmark’s good ranking owes to the Danish welfare state. We have effective and transparent government that empowers citizens and companies to contribute to a wealthy country with high liveability.

“I am glad to see our business environment reconfirmed as one of the most attractive in the world with a top position in the entrepreneurship & opportunity category.”

The category covers 11 different variables such as business start-up costs, R&D expenditure and perception that working hard gets you ahead.

Denmark has taken one step up from 4th to 3rd place and only Norway and Switzerland rank above Denmark.
