The Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2017 puts Copenhagen ahead of Zurich, Helsinki, San Francisco and Gothenburg in its first ever cities ranking, comparing 46 cities worldwide.
“Copenhagen takes the top spot due to the city’s ability to communicate Nordic values in management and lifestyle and its ability to implement a holistic strategy of attracting and retaining talent,” says Dr. Bruno Lanvin, Executive Director for Global Indices, INSEAD.
INSEAD is one of three partners behind the Global Talent Competitiveness Index, together with Human Capital Leadership Institute and Adecco.
Copenhagen ranks in top five in four out of six pillars constituting the city index:
- No. 1 on Grow (learning and universities)
- No. 1 on Build global knowledge (tertiary enrolment and global networks)
- No. 3 on Enable (urbanization and clusters)
- No. 5 on Attract (quality of life)
Denmark is 4th best talent country in the EU
Denmark also performs well on country level. In the 2017 index, ranking 118 nations, Denmark is number four in the European Union and number eight globally.

- Corruption (absence of) #1
- Ease of hiring #1
- Easy of redundancy #1
- Delegation of authority #1
- Labour-employer cooperation #2
- Ease of doing business #3
