Bonus Energy wins lucrative wind turbine order in Norway

(2003.10.20)

The Danish wind turbine manufacturer has landed an order to extend Norway's largest wind energy park on the island of Smøla

Danish wind turbine company Bonus Energy A/S has won a DKK 700 million (USD 109 million) order from the Norwegian state owned energy company Statkraft to extend Norway's largest wind energy park on the island of Smøla. The order comprises 48 turbines rated at 2.3 MW as well as roads and electrical infrastructure. The wind turbine blades will have a diameter of 80 meters, mounted on huge 70 meter tall towers.

The extension is slated for completion in 2005 and the wind farm will then have a total output of 150 MW, making it into one of the largest wind energy parks in Europe. Bonus Energy also supplied the first part of the Smøla Wind Farm and in July the company obtained another order from Statkraft for a 55 MW wind energy park on the island of Hitra. The total value for both projects exceeds DKK 1 billion (USD 156 million). Statkraft is soon expected to invite tenders for yet another large wind energy park on the Kjøllefjord in northern Norway. The news is reported by national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten and on Bonus Energy's website.
