Danish shipping is characterized by quality shipping. Compared to a world average age of 12 years, the average age of the Danish fleet is as low as 7 years. Danish shipowners’ new-building programme corresponds to 150% of the existing merchant fleet tonnage. Around 15 million DWT, at a value of USD 15 billion, is on order for delivery over the next 3 - 4 years. This testifies to the Danish quality concept and a continuous renewal of the fleet.

The Danish Parliament and changing governments have pursued a far-sighted industrial policy, which has established and maintained positive conditions for the maritime industries. Denmark’s International Ship Register and the tonnage tax system have been fundamental for the growth of the quality shipping sector
in Denmark.
