Exports to Sweden set to break record

(2006.01.02)

Denmark's exports to Sweden are set to reach almost DKK 65 bn in 2005, a record figure which will consolidate Sweden's position as Denmark's second largest export market

Denmark's exports to Sweden are set to reach almost DKK 65 bn (USD 10.4 bn) in 2005, a record figure which will consolidate Sweden's position as Denmark's second largest export market, Germany being the largest. 2006 is also forecast to be a good year for sales to Sweden due to growth in the Swedish economy. The Swedish Employer Association recently upwardly adjusted its 2006 growth forecast from 2.6% to 3.1%.

Figures from the Danish Trade Council show that Denmark's exports totalled almost DKK 50 bn (USD 8 bn) from January to October, a 15.8% increase compared to the same period last year. In addition, figures from OECD show that Denmark increased its market share in Sweden during 2005, and currently accounts for 10% of Swedish imports.

Claus Hofmann Frisch, head of the trade department at the Danish Embassy in Stockholm says: "It is impressive that our total exports to Sweden are close to rivalling those to Germany. But there are only nine million people living in Sweden, compared to 80 million in Germany. Measured per capita, we are exporting more than six times as much to Sweden than to Germany". The news was reported by Erhvervsbladet.
