Siemens Oil and Gas sets up division in Esbjerg(2008.02.08)German industrial giant Siemens with a workforce of 400,000 people worldwide, is establishing a Siemens Oil and Gas Division in the city of EsbjergGerman industrial giant Siemens with a workforce of 400,000 people worldwide, is establishing a Siemens Oil and Gas Division in the city of Esbjerg, which is located on the west coast of Jutland. Sales director Peter Hansen at Siemens' Danish head office near Copenhagen told financial daily newspaper Børsen that the aim is to grow in oil and gas both locally and internationally.
"Siemens is widely known in electronic engineering and it is naturally some of those products we would like to sell to the large offshore operators in Esbjerg," Hansen said.
Initially the new division will focus on making contacts and organising tasks. "We would like to create even more jobs in the near future. There is quite a lot of exports from Esbjerg to centres in for example Qatar and the Russian provinces. We are already carrying out tasks for some of the large operators and also have service tasks in the North Sea. In the future we will now be part of the entire offshore centre in Esbjerg," commented Peter Hansen.
Siemens is upgrading its oil and gas activities internally in the group. Whereas previously this business area was spread across the organisation, Siemens has now set up an independent business unit under its Energy division.
Siemens Wind Power, the former Danish company Bonus Energy, headquartered in Brande, Jutland, is shipping many of its wind turbines for the world market from the Port of Esbjerg, which is putting efforts into expanding its position as a centre for shipping offshore wind turbines.
